This period takes its name from the city of Sum which had been the capital of Ethiopia for years and years before the change to Christianity of King Azana (who oversaw from c. 320-360) and filled in as capital for years and years later. While we can't block the probability that Christianity had been accessible in the country before the difference in this ruler, it is simply starting from this period that announcements of especially Christian feelings appear in the material record.
